Dr. Kirk H. Michaelian
Dr. Kirk H. Michaelian, FECC Board member, passed away in early 2022 shortly after his retirement from many years of service with the Government of Canada. Kirk had an outstanding career as a scientist and engineer, having made extraordinary contributions to analytical sciences. His interests in fusion were broad and he gave freely of his expertise and time to the Fusion Energy Council of Canada as well as its predecessor organizations. He will be greatly missed.

Kirk H. Michaelian, PhD

Kirk H. Michaelian received his PhD in Chemical Physics from Simon Fraser University. After graduation he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Toronto and as a research associate at the University of Alberta. Kirk was then employed as a Research Scientist at Natural Resources Canada for 37 years, where his research focused on instrumentation and signal recovery in photoacoustic and Raman spectroscopy. He is currently an emeritus scientist with the same department. Kirk is an Honourary Fellow at the Canadian Light Source in Saskatoon, and an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto and the University of Calgary. He is the author of more than 175 journal articles and two books on spectroscopy.
